The term “Modern Workplace” is all the rage in the IT community right now. Microsoft is expending a lot of energy promoting this, resourcing its partners and educating their customers. What I want to touch on though is the device you use everyday as part of the modern workplace.

Security and why you are your best defence

The first line of defence is you. One common scam we see time and time again is dummy invoices being created seemingly by a legitimate supplier with a different bank account. How do scammers find your suppliers? Simply by signing into your mailbox usually because a user has accidentally given their credentials away. They will then go through your mailbox looking for supplier who regularly send invoices. They will then set up an email address with your suppliers name. Using hidden code they will hide the actual email address used and essentially ‘spoof’ your suppliers.

Remote Working

I spent a year working from home and grew up around people who did so to me working from home is not unusual. My current role allows me the ability to work remotely when I need to. The idea of remote workers is not new, nor is it novel. My wife works from home now permanently as her company is based in another city and her role requires her to be in Auckland. This works well for both her and her company. I worked for myself for nearly a year and then remotely in another country for 3 months.
